Lauren is a lactation consultant and environmental health scientist who loves bringing together rigorous science and personal, family-centered care.
Lauren is drawn to the thoughtful investigation that lactation care requires. She enjoys combining the best available evidence (while recognizing how much we still have to learn) with careful observation, intuition, and each family’s lived experience.
Lauren is also an environmental health scientist and epidemiologist dedicated to improving health during pregnancy, infancy, and across generations. She spent a decade at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health as a researcher and assistant professor, studying how environmental chemical exposures affect pregnancy and birth outcomes. She continues to conduct research on lead exposure during pregnancy and the risk of preterm birth.
Lauren is currently collaborating with Ellen to study body-led breastfeeding techniques and the complex dynamics of infant sucking. Together, they are working to better understand how and why these techniques support effective feeding, with the goal of strengthening the evidence available to lactation professionals and families.
Lauren is currently in nursing school and plans to become a midwife. Her work is grounded in the belief that supporting physiologic birth, breastfeeding, and healthier early-life environments can improve the well-being of parents, babies, and generations to come.
